Toronto Tri Delta Alumnae at Tri Psi Convention
It was an eventful four days in Buffalo that included plenty of sisterhood – with a side of shopping! The 93rd International Tri Psi Convention took place from October 13-16, 2016 at the Millennium Hotel, next to the Walden Galleria Mall.
Organized by the Toronto Tri Psis with Christine Calhoun at the helm, the conference appeared to adopt a similar theme to Tri Delta’s 2016 Convention: “Legislate. Celebrate.” Some of the changes the Tri Psis ratified include replacing their annual gathering with a biennial one and creating the new council position of Membership Director. Plus, International Tri Psi President Olive Jeejeebhoy passed the gavel to fellow Canadian Christine Calhoun, keeping the sorority’s leadership in our Toronto family!
While the Tri Psis were legislating, the guests were celebrating all that Buffalo has to offer. We were treated to tours of Forest Lawn Cemetery and the Darwin D. Martin House Complex. The former is the “permanent home” of illustrious residents like U.S. President Millard Fillmore (and musician Rick James!), while the latter was designed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The Tri Psis later joined us for a walking tour of the Canalside District, some free time in Niagara Falls State Park, plus dinner and musical entertainment at Top of the Falls Restaurant.
The Tri Deltas in attendance serenaded the other guests with DDD songs at the Saturday night banquet. However, the real highlight of the evening was a heartfelt speech given by Tri Delta and Tri Psi Kathy Massie. Kathy has previously served as DDD’s National Panhellenic Conference Delegate and is currently an NPC Release Figure Method Specialist for formal recruitment. On Sunday, Tri Psis and Tri Deltas concluded the Convention with the Violet Brunch.
The Canada Alpha Chapter of Tri Psi was well-represented by Cindy Blundell, Christine Calhoun, Jocette Illsley, Olive Jeejeebhoy, Sara Joyce, Georgina Klassen, Jeanine Macario, Fuza Majid, Michelle Mercer, Judy Pownall and Doreen Sherk.
In addition to Michelle and Judy, Toronto Alumnae Chapter members in attendance were Sarah Atteck, Katie Blundell, Caitlin Calhoun, Jessica Calhoun, Carrie Illsley, Carly Klassen, Carmelina Macario, Elizabeth Melo, Krystal Mercer, Barbara Morrison and Ashley Pivko.
And we can’t forget our Tri Delta dads and Tri Psi husbands, lovingly known as “Tri Psicles”: Thomas Calhoun, Khush Jeejeebhoy, John Klassen, John Pownall and Gordon Sherk!
Congrats to Christine and her team for an amazing weekend! We hope you’ll consider joining us at future Tri Psi Conventions.
Loyally,
Carly Klassen
