TAAP Item Donation Day

On Saturday, February 11 from 1PM to 3PM, The Toronto Area Alumnae Panhellenic (TAAP) is hosting an Item Donation Day in support of New Circles (www.newcircles.ca). New Circles is a local not-for-profit community support agency that strives to help the City of Toronto, with a focus on those residing in the Flemingdon Park, Thorncliffe Park, and Victoria Village communities. Their primary service is a clothing program which provides new and gently used clothing for men, women and children. Towels and bedding for all mattress sizes are also urgently needed.

New Circles also collects formal wear for boys and girls with their Prom Boutique program. The dresses, suits and accessories are available to local students in need. This special program allows students to select outfits at no cost – they are not inhibited from attending a milestone event.

This is a great way to get a head start on spring cleaning and meet alumnae from all different panhellenic sororities!

This event will be hosted at the Gamma Phi Beta house, 26 Madison Avenue. The nearest intersection is Spadina and Bloor. The nearest subway stop is Spadina. Parking is available at a Green P located on Spadina just north of Bloor.

2012 Warrior Dash for St. Jude

Calling all Warriors for the 2012 Warrior Dash!

Have you ever wanted to run a 5k obstacle course? Climbing over walls, getting tangled in ropes and jumping over fire?
What a great way to test your limits, right?! Think we made this up?

If this sounds like the kind of challenge you are up to then the DDD Toronto Alumnae Chapter wants to recruit you to be a Warrior! This year’s Warrior Dash is at the Horseshoe Resort and is being held on July 21st.

And why is the Toronto Alumnae Chapter asking for your support in this grueling task? Because this isn’t just any competition – it’s a philanthropy event for none other than St.Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Push yourself to your limits and help find a cure for pediatric cancers!

The Toronto Alumnae Chapter cordially invites all alumnae members in good standing to attend the Annual General Meeting & Cocktail Party. Members who haven’t yet paid their 2012 dues are welcome to do so at the event. We will be voting on the 2012-2014 Executive Committee Slate, followed by the social portion of the evening.

Beginning at 7 PM


The Letter Writing Campaign is a fairly new initiative, with the Collegiate Chapter holding the very first one last year. Almost every TriDelta Chapter participates in the campaign and it has proven to be one of the easiest and most successful initiatives.


Each collegian and alumni member is encouraged to bring the names and addresses of 50 contacts (i.e. family, friends, co-workers, etc.). Our St. Jude representative will provide all the letters, envelopes, and postage (to Canada and the United States). The letters are pre-written on behalf of “a TriDelta”, but we will be providing little notepads to include a more personal message with each letter.


The event will begin at 7 PM and will most likely end between 9-10 PM. There will be snacks and music! Also, the collegians will be turning the night into a slumber party with fun games and activities to play after the letter-writing portion. The alumni are more than welcome to stay for the games if they like. We all look forward to seeing many of you there and we appreciate your continued support of St. Jude. Please feel free to bring a snack or finger food contribution to the event.

Eat less. Exercise more. Worry less. Sleep more. We have the best of intentions when we make our resolutions every year on December 31st. Of course, as I type this on Orthodox Christmas, most of us have already broken the promises we made to ourselves just a week ago. Luckily, we have another shot at success. On January 23, 2012, Chinese New Year will be celebrated and the Year of the Dragon begins.

I recently discovered that the dragon is revered, not because it is the only mythological creature included in the Chinese Zodiac, but because it is a powerful combination of various animals, like the tiger, fish, snake and eagle. In other words, “the sum is greater than the individual parts.”

That’s how I feel about the current executive committee. It has been an honour and a pleasure to serve with the women you elected to office in 2010. Collectively, we have improved our communication efforts, increased our philanthropic endeavours, and included the collegians and Tri Psis in more of our activities. I’m grateful to each and every one of the officers for staying committed to our resolutions over the past two years.

On Thursday, February 9th, a new chapter begins. The slate of officers for 2012-2014 will be presented at our Annual General Meeting and Cocktail Party. The event is taking place in the party room of Carrie Illsley’s building. You’ll find more details about the party in the upcoming issue of the Toronto Tri Delta Tribune. The party is open to all members of the Toronto Alumnae Chapter who are in good standing. If you haven’t yet paid your dues for 2011-2012, it’s not too late. Just RSVP to the event and indicate that you will be bringing your $60 payment that evening, along with an appetizer, a dessert or a bottle of wine. Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.

Whatever your resolutions are for 2012, I hope that you might be willing to put them aside for one evening and indulge a little with us at the Annual General Meeting and Cocktail Party. As Oscar Wilde said, “Everything in moderation, including moderation.”

P.S. Afternoon Tea at the King Edward will take place, in conjunction with the Circle Ceremonies, in May 2012. This event is also open to collegians and Tri Psis. More details to follow at a later date.
