Success at Terry Fox Run 2018!

Congrats to Krystal Mercer Medri, Michelle Mercer, Jenny Dundas, Carrie Illsley and Carly Klassen, a.k.a. Fox Force Five, for participating in our chapter’s fifth consecutive Terry Fox Run! Baby Noah Medri was our token male this year. 🙂 Thanks to our donors, including many Tri Deltas and Tri Psis, the Tri Delta Toronto Alum Chapter team raised $2120 for cancer research!

Please Help Us Reach Our Goal!

Terry Fox Run – September 16, 2018

We’re six days out and $400 away from our alumnae chapter’s 2018 goal for the Terry Fox Run! If you can, please assist us in getting there. Your sponsorship will help fund innovative and progressive cancer research programs. Donations of $20 and above receive a tax receipt. Many thanks to everyone who has already supported us. As Terry said, “Even if I don’t finish, we need others to continue. It’s got to keep going.”

ONLY TWO WEEKS UNTIL TFR 2018…

… And our small but mighty team of two participants is only at 30% of our goal! Terry Fox said,“It’s got to keep going without me.” Please help keep Terry’s dream of ending cancer alive by joining or sponsoring our Tri Delta Toronto Alum Chapter team! Check out http://www.terryfox.ca/trideltatoronto for details about the Terry Fox Run.

Here are some reasons to support the Terry Fox Foundation:

  • It is volunteer driven, with only 38 staff across Canada and over 9,000 volunteer Run Organizers
  • Their $0.18 operating expense ratio is one of the best in the Canadian not-for-profit sector
  • Terry wanted a cure for cancer so their research focus is multi-site, including lung, brain, paediatric, and more
  • They invest in research with the potential for best and fastest outcomes

September is a busy month, so the date might not be the most convenient. If you’re still undecided about whether you can commit, consider this: unlike other charity runs, there is no entry fee and no minimum donation, so if you register and your plans change, there is no penalty. Please register today and help us to raise money in our community for this worthy cause.

With gratitude,

Carly Klassen

Toronto Tri Delts for Terry!

DDD Toronto Alum Chapter Team @ TFR 2017

I don’t remember too many news stories from when I was a child. My idyllic world was limited to family, friends, school, activities and toys. I do, however, recall the nightly images of Terry Fox on TV in the summer of 1980. Canada’s various news outlets were tracking the young amputee’s progress, as he bravely ran across the country to raise money for cancer research. He was a solitary silhouette jogging on the shoulder of a seemingly endless highway, but his Marathon of Hope united the nation.

Every September, our country is united again to continue Terry’s quest through the Terry Fox Run, and for the fifth consecutive year, the Toronto Alumnae Chapter is participating. Since 2014, the Tri Delta Toronto Alum Chapter team has raised $5217! We have set a lofty fundraising goal of $2000 for 2018.

Here’s what you can do to help:

Join the Mooredale group! Sign up online to participate with your Tri Delta sisters at the Mooredale location, 146 Crescent Road near Rosedale Station. As a group, we will be walking 5 km, but you’re free to walk, run, cycle or rollerblade 2.5, 5 or 10 km. We meet at 10 a.m. and go for brunch when we’re done. Family and friends are welcome.

Complete the Run at a different site! If Mooredale isn’t convenient for you, you can still join our team, completing the run at another location. There are more than 750 Terry Fox Runs across Canada.

Sponsor our team or an individual! If you’re unable to participate, you can still sponsor our team or a particular team member. There is no minimum donation, so we welcome all levels of sponsorship.

To join or to donate, check out http://www.terryfox.ca/trideltatoronto for details!

With gratitude,

Carly Klassen

P.S. September is a busy month, so it can be difficult to commit to the date in advance. Unlike other charity runs, there is no entry fee and no minimum donation, so if you register and your plans change, there is no penalty. Please consider registering today and raising money in your community for this worthy cause.

Tri Delta Terry Foxers Outrun Their Goal!

Tri Deltas at TFR 2017: Carly Klassen, Jenny Dundas, Krystal Mercer, Michelle Mercer & Carrie Illsley

For the fourth consecutive year, members of the Tri Delta Toronto Alumnae Chapter proudly participated in the Terry Fox Run on Sunday, September 17, 2017.

Our enthusiastic team consisted of Carly Klassen, Carrie Illsley, Colin Watson, Jenny Dundas, Krystal Mercer and Michelle Mercer.

Thanks to our sponsors, we raised $1716, or 114% of our $1500 goal! We couldn’t have done it without the generosity of family, friends, and the following Tri Deltas and Tri Psis: Arlene Chan, Carmelina Macario, Corinne Winnel, Eleanor MacLean, Elizabeth Melo, Georgina Klassen, Jena Crone, Joan Lockhart, Jocette Illsley, Laura Knapp, Nancy Gahm and Susan Weston.

Once again, Michelle Mercer was our top fundraiser and Carrie’s partner Colin Watson was our token male. Congrats, Michelle! Thanks for joining us, Colin!

This is the only alumnae fundraising activity that takes our chapter out into the community, both in terms of sponsorship (collecting from non-members) and visibility (wearing our letters). So mark your calendar and join us for the next Terry Fox Run on Sunday, September 16, 2018!

Only Two Weeks Until DDD Tackles the Terry Fox Run!

As a child, I was taught about Terry Fox’s incredible Marathon of Hope, and participated in the #TerryFoxRun at school every September. As an adult, I’m proud to continue that legacy with my Tri Delta sisters!

Terry famously said “Somewhere the hurting must stop.” With every step, with every dollar we get closer to finding a cure for cancer. I very much hope you will consider joining or sponsoring the Toronto Alumnae Chapter in support of our effort.

Bring you, bring your family, bring your friends to the #TerryFoxRun on Sunday, September 17th! Starting at 10 a.m., our core group will be completing a 5 km walk at the Mooredale location. You’re welcome to join us, or create your own challenge at any participating location. For more information or to donate, check out our team page at http://www.terryfox.ca/torontotridelta or read our previous post at http://torontotridelta.ca/2017/08/13/bring-you-to-terryfoxrun-2017/.

Everyone knows someone who has battled this terrible disease, so supporting The Terry Fox Foundation in its ongoing work is a very personal act. Whom will you honour or remember on September 17th?
