“I want every little girl who’s been told she’s bossy to be told again she has leadership skills.”

– Sheryl Sandberg, COO, Facebook

Calling all “bossy” alumnae! I’m your Nom Com Mom! That means I’m the chair of the 2018-2020 Nominating Committee of the Toronto Alumnae Chapter.

All joking aside, the role of the Nominating Committee is an important one. We slate the President, Vice President, Treasurer & Secretary for the next biennium.

The slate of officers will be presented at our Annual General Meeting on Sunday, February 11th and all dues-paying members of the Toronto Alumnae Chapter are eligible to vote.

While committee chairs are appointed, not elected, your Nom Com is happy to accept nominations for these keys roles as well, so we can make recommendations to the incoming Executive Committee.

Here’s the list of Executive Committee chair appointments in alphabetical order: Adopt-A-New Member Program, Alumnae-Collegiate Relations, Database, Dorothy Cody Award, Golden Circle, Historian, Membership, Newsletter Editor, Panhellenic, Philanthropy, Social Events, Social Media & Gin Systems, Young Alumnae and Webmaster.

What do we need from you?

  • If you haven’t already done so, please pay your alumnae chapter dues, so that you are eligible to nominate a sister, self-nominate and vote.
  • The Committee is accepting nominations by email and by phone until Friday, February 2nd. My contact information is listed at the bottom of this page.
  • For each of your nominees, kindly explain why you believe she is the ideal candidate.
  • All nominees will be asked to fill out our Leadership Profile. Please click Leadership Profile 2018 to view and download it.

Thank you for taking the time to participate in the shaping of our chapter leadership for the next biennium. We look forward to receiving your nominations and your completed Leadership Profiles.

Loyally,

Carly Klassen

Tri Deltas at TFR 2017: Carly Klassen, Jenny Dundas, Krystal Mercer, Michelle Mercer & Carrie Illsley

For the fourth consecutive year, members of the Tri Delta Toronto Alumnae Chapter proudly participated in the Terry Fox Run on Sunday, September 17, 2017.

Our enthusiastic team consisted of Carly Klassen, Carrie Illsley, Colin Watson, Jenny Dundas, Krystal Mercer and Michelle Mercer.

Thanks to our sponsors, we raised $1716, or 114% of our $1500 goal! We couldn’t have done it without the generosity of family, friends, and the following Tri Deltas and Tri Psis: Arlene Chan, Carmelina Macario, Corinne Winnel, Eleanor MacLean, Elizabeth Melo, Georgina Klassen, Jena Crone, Joan Lockhart, Jocette Illsley, Laura Knapp, Nancy Gahm and Susan Weston.

Once again, Michelle Mercer was our top fundraiser and Carrie’s partner Colin Watson was our token male. Congrats, Michelle! Thanks for joining us, Colin!

This is the only alumnae fundraising activity that takes our chapter out into the community, both in terms of sponsorship (collecting from non-members) and visibility (wearing our letters). So mark your calendar and join us for the next Terry Fox Run on Sunday, September 16, 2018!

With gratitude & Delta love,

Carly Klassen

As a child, I was taught about Terry Fox’s incredible Marathon of Hope, and participated in the #TerryFoxRun at school every September. As an adult, I’m proud to continue that legacy with my Tri Delta sisters!

Terry famously said “Somewhere the hurting must stop.” With every step, with every dollar we get closer to finding a cure for cancer. I very much hope you will consider joining or sponsoring the Toronto Alumnae Chapter in support of our effort.

Bring you, bring your family, bring your friends to the #TerryFoxRun on Sunday, September 17th! Starting at 10 a.m., our core group will be completing a 5 km walk at the Mooredale location. You’re welcome to join us, or create your own challenge at any participating location. For more information or to donate, check out our team page at http://www.terryfox.ca/torontotridelta or read our previous post at http://torontotridelta.ca/2017/08/13/bring-you-to-terryfoxrun-2017/.

Everyone knows someone who has battled this terrible disease, so supporting The Terry Fox Foundation in its ongoing work is a very personal act. Whom will you honour or remember on September 17th?

Terry Fox Run – September 17, 2017

Do you have any plans on Sunday, September 17, 2017? Well, you do now! You’re invited to join the Tri Delta Toronto Alum Chapter team for the #TerryFoxRun! For the fourth consecutive year, our chapter is participating in this important annual tradition.

Since the early 1970s, Tri Delta’s chosen philanthropy has been Children’s Cancer Charities. The Terry Fox Run allows us to support this cause in a Canadian context.

Bring You

… and your family and your friends! There’s no registration fee and you can choose from over 900 Run sites across Canada. If you’d like to meet up with our core group, we are gathering in the parking lot at Mooredale (146 Crescent Road) at 10 a.m. This site was chosen because it is a central location in a beautiful neighbourhood that is TTC accessible, i.e. close to Rosedale Subway Station. We’d love for you to join us – sporting Tri Delta colours/letters, of course!

Be Brave

Haven’t laced up your running shoes all summer? No worries! Our core group does a 5 km walk, so it’s easy to catch up with sisters while enjoying some light exercise. However, if a 10 km ravine run is more your speed, that’s certainly an option for you!

Be Bold

Our Team goal is to raise $1500. Set a lofty personal goal and challenge family, friends and co-workers to match your donation. Your personal fundraising page makes it easy to recruit friends and thank sponsors.

Be Kind

If you can’t join us at the Run, then please sponsor us today! Do it now while it’s top of mind. It only takes two minutes on our page at http://www.terryfox.ca/torontotridelta. (Note that is it http and not https.) And while you’re there, don’t forget to leave us an encouraging message in the Our Supporters section at the bottom.

Thanks for your registration and/or donation! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing you on September 17th!

With gratitude & Delta love,

Carly Klassen

Toronto Tri Delta Alumnae at Tri Psi Convention

It was an eventful four days in Buffalo that included plenty of sisterhood – with a side of shopping! The 93rd International Tri Psi Convention took place from October 13-16, 2016 at the Millennium Hotel, next to the Walden Galleria Mall.

Organized by the Toronto Tri Psis with Christine Calhoun at the helm, the conference appeared to adopt a similar theme to Tri Delta’s 2016 Convention: “Legislate. Celebrate.” Some of the changes the Tri Psis ratified include replacing their annual gathering with a biennial one and creating the new council position of Membership Director. Plus, International Tri Psi President Olive Jeejeebhoy passed the gavel to fellow Canadian Christine Calhoun, keeping the sorority’s leadership in our Toronto family!

While the Tri Psis were legislating, the guests were celebrating all that Buffalo has to offer. We were treated to tours of Forest Lawn Cemetery and the Darwin D. Martin House Complex. The former is the “permanent home” of illustrious residents like U.S. President Millard Fillmore (and musician Rick James!), while the latter was designed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The Tri Psis later joined us for a walking tour of the Canalside District, some free time in Niagara Falls State Park, plus dinner and musical entertainment at Top of the Falls Restaurant.

The Tri Deltas in attendance serenaded the other guests with DDD songs at the Saturday night banquet. However, the real highlight of the evening was a heartfelt speech given by Tri Delta and Tri Psi Kathy Massie. Kathy has previously served as DDD’s National Panhellenic Conference Delegate and is currently an NPC Release Figure Method Specialist for formal recruitment. On Sunday, Tri Psis and Tri Deltas concluded the Convention with the Violet Brunch.

The Canada Alpha Chapter of Tri Psi was well-represented by Cindy Blundell, Christine Calhoun, Jocette Illsley, Olive Jeejeebhoy, Sara Joyce, Georgina Klassen, Jeanine Macario, Fuza Majid, Michelle Mercer, Judy Pownall and Doreen Sherk.

In addition to Michelle and Judy, Toronto Alumnae Chapter members in attendance were Sarah Atteck, Katie Blundell, Caitlin Calhoun, Jessica Calhoun, Carrie Illsley, Carly Klassen, Carmelina Macario, Elizabeth Melo, Krystal Mercer, Barbara Morrison and Ashley Pivko.

And we can’t forget our Tri Delta dads and Tri Psi husbands, lovingly known as “Tri Psicles”: Thomas Calhoun, Khush Jeejeebhoy, John Klassen, John Pownall and Gordon Sherk!

Congrats to Christine and her team for an amazing weekend! We hope you’ll consider joining us at future Tri Psi Conventions.

Loyally,

Carly Klassen
