Friends are welcome!
Once again this Spring, we will gather in celebration of philanthropy at TAAP and our member sororities and women’s fraternities. We will showcase all that our membership does locally, and nationally.
We are thrilled to be at an exciting new venue this year: Brassaii (http://www.brassaii.com/). Our Keynote Speaker will be award-winning documentary filmmaker and media arts teacher Sandra Danilovic. The theme of Sandra’s presentation will be Online Game Avatars: Their Empowerment and Use in Society (aka You Are What You Avatar!). For more information about Sandra, please read below.
Exciting changes have been made to the TAAP Scholarship Program. Starting this year, TAAP will award one scholarship to an undergraduate
sorority woman in Ontario as well as one scholarship to an alumnae sorority woman who is an active member of TAAP.
The 2012 scholarships will be awarded at the luncheon. And don’t forget the Silent Auction and Bake Sale! Both, as always, will be full of great selections donated to TAAP.
Tickets for the lunch are $35 for members and $40 for non members
We look forward to seeing you there!

On Saturday, February 11 from 1PM to 3PM, The Toronto Area Alumnae Panhellenic (TAAP) is hosting an Item Donation Day in support of New Circles (www.newcircles.ca). New Circles is a local not-for-profit community support agency that strives to help the City of Toronto, with a focus on those residing in the Flemingdon Park, Thorncliffe Park, and Victoria Village communities. Their primary service is a clothing program which provides new and gently used clothing for men, women and children. Towels and bedding for all mattress sizes are also urgently needed.
New Circles also collects formal wear for boys and girls with their Prom Boutique program. The dresses, suits and accessories are available to local students in need. This special program allows students to select outfits at no cost – they are not inhibited from attending a milestone event.
This is a great way to get a head start on spring cleaning and meet alumnae from all different panhellenic sororities!
This event will be hosted at the Gamma Phi Beta house, 26 Madison Avenue. The nearest intersection is Spadina and Bloor. The nearest subway stop is Spadina. Parking is available at a Green P located on Spadina just north of Bloor.
The Scholarship Luncheon will be Saturday April 30th at the University Women’s Club on 162 St. George Street at U of T campus (just south of Bloor Street on the west side of St. George). Tickets will be $35. I will be posting more details in the following weeks as I receive them.
The speaker for the Scholarship Luncheon will be Dr. Carolyn Bennett, MP-Liberal representing Toronto’s riding of St. Pauls since 1997. She is a member of Alpha Gamma Delta’s Tau Chapter at the University of Toronto, formely on the Boards for Havergal College and for Women’s College Hospital. She is the former Minister of State (Public Health). Her bio can be found online http://carolynbennett.liberal.ca/biography/ She is invited to give a bipartisan talk about engaging women in the political process or helping to support other women to leadership in public office. We are thrilled to welcome Carolyn!
Also please note scholarship applications are currently in circulation and the deadline to apply is March 12th. The scholarship application can be found on the TAAP website for download at http://www.taap.ca/scholarships_app.html
Hope you are doing well. Just a reminder that TAAP is holding it’s annual Item Donation Day on October 23rd from 1-3 PM @ Kappa Kappa Gamma (32 Madison Ave).
This year TAAP is supporting Sistering (www.sistering.org)
Sistering supports women in extraordinary circumstances.
WHAT to DONATE?
• Gently used women’s pants, tops, skirts, coats, boots and shoes
• Office supplies (paper, pens and pencils)
• Toiletries (great way to get rid of hotel samples!)
• Craft items (knitting needles, wool, craft supplies)
• Linens (sheets, pillows, blankets)
Hope to see you there!
